Minimal house beat programming
The video below shows how the guy composes a quick beat using The Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer. I think that's about all you need for drums in minimal house.

Most effective music making technique: Rest your ears!
Just a recap on one of the audiotuts author's tip on mixing. Resting your ears is as important as owning a pair of good monitors. I would even argue ears are the priority everything else aside.
The large amounts of time spent making music, mixing, mastering, or doing anything that requires you to listen, do not bring great results. On the opposite, it may cause frustration and dismay with yourself as you cannot get the sound you're after.
Probably, music making is unique to that extent that more time does not buy you quality. Even if you have all day each day it won't make your productions better or more elaborate. The simple trick is to stop and rest. Then carry on and rest again. I know it's hard. Music making can be emotional making you to work on your track day and night.
You can have the arrangement or the idea laid out in a day but you sure need more than that to mix it. To mix it that i sounds great. See the quote from audiotuts.
Tip 1: Rest Your Ears
If you’re mixing for a long amount of time you may be thinking your mix is going well when in reality it’s not. This can be a problem for people who refuse to stop until they are 100% happy with their results. I do this sometimes myself.
But your ears will eventually begin to get tired and you start hearing things that aren’t really there. That awesome guitar you’ve spent hours mixing will end up sound like crap the next morning when you listen back to it.
Your ears can neglect certain frequencies when your ears get tired and you pay too much attention to specific frequency ranges you lose sight of the bigger picture.

Nine Inch Nails - Head Like A Hole
Some real sound here. One of my all-timer tunes.
Reason 5 and Blocks

Yesterday I first tried the brand new Reason 5! Started just by playing with it but ended up making a tune. Oh well that's the DAW's are designed for anyway. I haven't explored all the new features there except for Blocks.
Have to tell you Blocks is a really good stuff! Helps you focus on the specific parts of the arrangement. So for example, you want to work on your theme arrangement and nothing else. Create a block call it a theme and start building it. No other parts of the song will be in your line of sight. Of course, at any time you can switch to song mode, whereby you see your whole composition.
It really speeds up the process of arrangement. Fuels the idea as you can quickly build intros and themes, and bridges. Over the years I realized concentration is so crucial in music making so blocks is a way to help musicians focus on what their doing.
